Consultation on STV's watered-down future

Democratic Left Scotland has been paying close attention to the dispute involving journalists at the STV. The latest twist in the story has been Ofcom's decision to put revised plans out for consultation. It is clear that pressure from the NUJ, politicians from a variety of parties and the public have caused a rethink. 

The degree to which these watered-down plans address the concerns of the journalists on the frontline remains to be seen.

The NUJ remains concerned and have questioned the motives of STV management highlighting their plans to divert funds to towards a commercial radio station. 

The Ofcom consultation runs until February 9th and there is an opportunity to keep up the pressure and to defend quality local journalism. 

Democratic Left Scotland encourages members and friends to take part in the consultation and to let others know.
