Nae AI!

The multi-strand campaign against mega AI data centres which are proposed around the country is building in strength and coherence.

From local Facebook pages such as this one about the proposed development near Annan, to a range of online and public meetings being organised by local community groups, trade unions and networks of activists, this issue is leading more and more people to take a stand.

Two Committees of the Scottish Parliament are seeking views on their impact - and we urge all readers of this website to submit their views and considerations by clicking through here.

The consultation closes on 15 November - and the day before you can take part in a different kind of demonstration of your views by joining the march in Edinburgh.

A range of organisations are calling for the government to halt the AI data centre rollout in Scotland.

The organisers say that 'developers want to build monster data centres here and sell them on to big US tech companies. There are over twenty already proposed and more in the pipeline, which would need twice as much electricity as Scotland’s peak usage. This has huge consequences for our energy bills, water, health, communities, climate and nature.

'Decisions on AI data centres should be led by the people, not by big tech profits. The people of Scotland must have a say on how our public resources are used.

'This goes beyond planning guidance. We need a national conversation about the rollout of AI and data centres before any decisions are made. It is an issue that affects us all'.
