Stop the Cuts - Save our fire stations

ree

Monifieth in Angus is not somewhere associated with calls for revolution at lively public meetings. But those attending recent full house event held by the Save Balmossie Fire and Ambulance Station let their strong feelings be known.

The Monifieth meeting was called to let people hear the views of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and to prepare for the consultation meeting being held by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. It is one of many being held across the country.

The Balmossie campaign has had support from politicians across the political spectrum and following the meeting Maggie Chapman MSP said 'the Balmossie station serves Broughty Ferry and Angus. This shared service works to keep the community safe and well. No to downgrading. No to closure’.

The Angus meeting follows a similar response in Fife, where Lochgelly Community Council, the FBU and Fife Trade Union Council were amongst those protesting against attacks on the service in their area. Again politicians joined with the community, to amplify the message that cuts to the fire service endanger lives.
