Democratic Left Scotland members in Dundee are once again working with people from the Trades Union Council, community organisations, and a range of campaigners to run a lively programme of progressive talks, cultural activities and events around May Day.

The ‘Speak Oot’ programme amounts to a progressive ‘fringe’ in the run up to and either side of the big annual meeting of the Scottish Trades Union Council (Caird Hall, Dundee, 22nd to 26th April),

The events include a Holyrood elections hustings organised by Dundee Pensioners Forum (17 April, 11 am); an evening event at Dundee Contemporary Arts celebrating the city’s twinning relationship with the Palestinian city of Nablus (20 April, 6.30 pm); a ‘Mouldfest’ session from Living Rent Dundee on campaigning to improve housing standards and extend tenants’ rights (25 April, 2 pm); and a discussion on Cuba led by the author, professor and campaigner Helen Yaffe (30 April, 7 pm).

There’s also a play reading, creative writing workshop, and a performance of Townsend Theatre Company’s adaptation of the classic Ragged Trousered Philanthropists (3 May, 7.30 pm).

The programme culminates in Dundee’s May Day March and Rally, on Saturday 2 May, organised by the Trades Union Council and assembling at the Unite the Union offices at 12 noon.

There’s a Speak Oot Facebook page, - another way to get more details is by emailing the organisers on speakoot@gmail.com
