Which way for France?

Vincent Boulet, the vice president of the European Left, assesses the current crisis in French politics and society.
In his article in this month's European Left newsletter, Boulet argues that 'the immediate priority today is the formation of a left-wing government based on the results of the July 2024 legislative elections. Marron must finally appoint a left-wing Prime Minister and government'.
In these increasingly polarised and dangerous times, Boulet warns that of the real possibility that 'the far right will reap the benefits of political instability, as part of the bourgeoisie now sees it as a potential fallback option. This marks a major turning point in French history'.
And not only French history ... Ascendancy for Jordan Bardella's and Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement national would have major implications across our continent.
Our eyes are on France, as the need to find ways to effectively counter far-right politics - and its causes - becomes ever more urgent, from Paris to Peterhead, and from Amiens to Aberdeen.
