'Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners' campaigned in solidarity with striking NUM members, forty years ago - and provided material support to working class families in Wales. On Wednesday 17 April there'll be a special showing of the film about this important aspect of our history as part of the Speak Oot festival. It will be followed by a panel discussion.
The film is an inspiring story of what is possible when people stand together. Focussing on characters including Mark Ashton (who was secretary of the Young Communist League), Jonathan Blake, Mike Jackson and others, it's won a string of awards, including at Cannes, and features well-known actors including Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton.
The Speak Oot screening at Dundee Contemporary Arts will be followed by discussion, recollections, reflections, questions and suggestions, giving us an opportunity to reflect on the miners' strike, the importance of intersectionality, and the power we all have when we work together.
