Macabre are these "peacemakers"

ree

When Henry Kissinger was awarded the the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, the American humourist Tom Lehrer dryly observed that 'satire is obsolete'. In this discussion piece, Ronnie Smith notes that things have become even less funny since then.

So it’s true.

This gives new and enhanced meaning to the seldom-used adjective ‘macabre’.

Obama was awarded the prize just as he began his first term and many who should have known better applauded him. That was before he normalised the use of global, extra-judicial assassination by drone to bring peace to the world. A peace predicated on continued US hegemony.

Trump and Netanyahu are now openly promoting their plan to remove what remains of the Arab population of Gaza to other countries within or even beyond the region. Those who refuse to leave will be confined in (concentration) camps.

What was once known as Gaza will be redeveloped. The Charter Cities Institute has long earmarked northern Gaza as a special business and investment project. Israel’s large share of the oil and gas fields now moving into production in the Eastern Mediterranean requires a major industrial and commercial port on the Gaza coast. Trump wants to develop residential and vacation schemes in the south of Gaza and all of that requires significant infrastructure development. (We should also note the news that has come out about some form of involvement in plans for the so-called 'Gaza Riveria' by staff members of the Tony Blair Institute).

Who will build all of this? The people who have been removed to the camps. Who will profit? The Western countries who conspired to destroy Arab Gaza.

Yes indeed, the Nobel Peace Prize.
